    although I don`t think Penn belongs in your group because like Pacino he`s still an actor, not a star. at least in my view.

    Brando was a great actor IMO but I don`t think he became so much a star as he became a carticuture of himself (as a star?) I would say the same thing about Burton. His "acting" was really over the top once he became a star.
    
    As stars always brings an element of their own charisma and personality to their roles they play, greatness is never achieved.
