It was a lot better than I had anticipated. I think it would have benefitted from some editing. As I recall the movie was at least 2.5 hours - maybe even closer to 3? The pace would have been better if the first 20-30 minutes of the movie had been condensed, or maybe even eliminated. I thought Leo was quite convincing in the last third of the movie (when Huges was losing his marbles.) Frankly I didn't think Leo had it in him to pull off that performance, but imho he did quite well.I agree that the Aviator was considered Oscar material largely because the vast majority of other major releases last year were simply awful.

...I'm afraid he was unconvincing as HH - he seems too boyish to pull it off. I don't know what Scorcese sees in him. His best roles were in "Gilbert Grape" where he played a boy and "Catch me if You Can".
