Scarlett Johansson pulled out of appearing in the second Mission: Impossible sequel after Tom Cruise tried to convert her to scientology, according to reports. Cruise, who produces the action adventures, met with Johansson ahead of casting for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 3 and took her to one of the controversial religion's headquarters, claims Radarmagazine.Com. A source tells the website, "After two hours of proselytizing, Cruise opened a door to reveal a second room full of upper-level Scientologists who had been waiting to dine with the pair, at which point the cool-headed ing�nue politely excused herself." Officially Johansson quit the film because of scheduling conflicts after the film was delayed so Cruise could make War Of The Worlds.

I also read about this. Good for her! I don't know why these celebs turn to Scientology, but Cruise seems to be bent on converting people. I don't know why he is so vocal about Scientology - most of the other celebs that are into it are much more low key about it.
Tom seems to be having a melt down these days........

    Very funny!
    The Time magazine Scientology expose about 15 years ago was pretty scary. They use brainwashing techniques, have followers wear uniforms (which I saw in Hollywood) and use about any means possible to extract major amounts of cash from anyone. As of 10yrs ago or so, Cruise had given them over $9 million. Apparently at the highest level, they take you out on a boat and reveal the big secret: that L. Ron Hubbard is actually God.
    On the other hand, Cruise and Travolta have done very well for themselves. It may be crazy medicine, but effective medicine.

      I'm sure you recognize that scientology has nothing to do with their success in Hollywood--hence it ain't "effective medicine."
      It is simply irrelevant to their successful Hollywood careers.

        At every stage of his career (producer, singer/songwriter, restauranteur, politician) he was told it was hopeless by nearly everyone, yet he always triumphed-I admired that about him.
