"Passion in the desert " is the brother of this film.
How good this film is, it has to be seen to believe it! Again and again.
It is so modern and prophetic. It is before and post 9/11.
A man fall in love. But this woman has two faces. But are not all women so?
Little by little the man change his role to her role, but he got only one face.
A train, people hearing the story of this man.
Surrealistic. And not.
And on top you see Carole Bouquet naked.
What ask for more?
A MUST.

Follow Ups:
Patrick,I've always thought "That Obscure Object of Desire" was unjustly neglected- it's Bunuel's most refined balance between what seems almost a documentary of obsession, and a surreal situation. in which Rey doesn't apparently notice he's willing to do anything to possess a completely different person- who also toys with him mercilessly. Rey's, odd, dazed character is priceless. He's just continually stunned by his pursuit, but can't leave off.
You're correct, you have to see it more than once.
I tend to pair "Obscure Object" more with "Le Fantome de la liberte" -because of the similar theme of self-inflicted frustration.
Merci d'ecrire au sujet de ce film avec l'atmoshpere excentrique parfait. Je ne l'ai pas vu depuis 1975 et le voudrais se "recharger".
Salut,
Je regarde en ce moment meme " Le Fantome ..." demain my thoughts about it.PS: In the end HE toys with her. But not for long. It is the ever lasting play of love. la ronde de l´ amour...Ophuls....

I agree. I have seen this many times. Fernando Rey playing a Frenchman. Bunel' had a lot of fun with this one.

Yes, his playing with persons belonging to the " haute bourgeoisie " is a pleasure to watch at.

I just remembered that Rey also played a Frencman in "The French Connection".

Oh yes. One film I will rejoin sooner or later.
