David Lean directed this splendid and sdatisfying version of the classic Dickens novel. I found the adult PIP to be played by an actor who is way too old for the part. Other than that the parts are well cast. Jean Simmons, 17 at the time, is very beautiful. Criterion has done a good job on this DVD.

Tinear -
You *do* know what you are talking about !
Burl Ives , Charles Bickford , Chuck Connors are all magnificent. I love how Heston puts his pants on with two aggressive swoops before the fight with Peck. All conflicts are brilliantly shot from a distance to heighten the insignificance of the "duel".

The actors were uposet with this but the director insisted.

what other's think. That's courage, as his character showed so well.
Yup, I saw this as a boy and tried many, many times to mimic Charlton's pant's prowess but failed every time, usually ending up on a heap on the floor.
Don't forget the bitchy, exquisite turn by the little blonde whiny-voiced actress. She was priceless.

...did you like Alec Guiness in his brief appearance?
