In 1997 The Full Monty took America by storm. The witty story coupled with good acting and just plain old fasioned fun created an irresistable mixture that pretty much everyone loved.I am sure it was with an eye on that success that Calendar Girls were conceived.
In a small Yorkshire town a bunch of middle-aged ladies, led masterfully by none else than the Miss British Sex Symbol Helen Mirren, decided to put together a fund raiser calendar, featuring twelve of them in the nude.
Well, "nude" is somewhat of an overstatement, as the traditional British good sense had to step in and demand that there would be a hint, rather than well, a full monty.
If that story smacks you as contrived and hard to believe, don't matter, as it is just a convenient vehicle, and what rides on it is worth your time. At least the first 2/3 of the film.
At which point Hollywood enters, and it is all downhill from there.
But for a good doze of British humor this is a fun watch.

Follow Ups:
..was in this.
She's an absolutely extraordinary actress and a wonderfully humble & generous person, the stuff legends are made of.
You may like to check out 'Girl's Night' (with Kris Kristofferson) for a more tender but equally 'brit humour' film.

Kris . . . wonderful fellowOnce upon a time a helicopter pilot and Rhodes scholar. And a notorious "swordsman".
And he could hold his own in a "piss-up" with anyone. Dunno if he still can.
As for acting . . . he basically plays himself. But so did McQueen, Cary Grant, et al.

..he's quite impressive as an actor, methinks.
