summer popcorn fun-fest!
Just like last years Panic Room, this one features Jodie as the protective Mom battling against unbelievable odds with only her cojones (she may have a set...) and brains on her side.
This film is elevated, as all this genre must be, by the quality of the cast, cleverness of the script, and editing.
This one has all three... in spades.
Jodie's performance, actually, is much better than necessary but actually gets one very involved (especially if you're a parent). It's time she got back into serious film-making.
Peter Sarsgaard is superb and his voice is an exact (and almost distubing) replica of John Malkovich's in some situations.
The pilot, a Brit actor, is extremely convincing and skips so many of the cliches which one has come to expect of the "man in charge."
So, I'd give this a much-better-than-average thriller rating but also note that Jodie's fine performance places it into a unique category: an Oscar level performance in a "B" movie.

Follow Ups:
Her performance is "much better than necessary?" What an odd thing to say! Don't you want every performance to be as good as it can possibly be?

great talent in a B movie doing her best. Pacino or DeNiro are examples of artists that seem to rise (or fall) to the level of the script and director.

And ya didn't give anything away. Sarsgaard is one fine actor with a wide range...He CAN play creepy.

Absolutely no morals or conscience, then he believably played the exact opposite in Shattered Glass. I need to lookup some more of his work.
