but the viewer must understand that just because both protagonists are cops doesn't mean anything: this is, after all, Wong Kar Wai. To him, law enforcement is just another job and, as it is in real life, rather mundane.
My only gripe with this charming film, filled with excellent performances and nary a misstep, is the endless repetition of one Mammas and the Poppas song. If ever I hear "All the leaves...." I think I'll snap.

that this movie is now 12 years old (1994). The first time I watched it was on satelite some late night, and after I watched it, I almost felt like I dreamt the whole thing.
To Hollywood, this movie once again proves that nothing works better to hold the audience's interest than to put two charismatic characters with real chemistry on the screen.
