Its called tat at the cinema but all the printed stuff omits the 2006.
OK...
This is Shakespeare moved to the Melbourne underworld, with a rock-styled and dressed lead and a world of luxury cars and iPods.
A world ofmore decadence than any film I can remember this side of The Cook The Thief His Wife And Her Lover or Performance.
A Lady Macbeth in La Perla lingerie, if any, and ouzing sex sex sex.
And all the while Shakespeare's words tumble out.
Its directed by Geoffrey Wright who made Romper Stomper and at the eand there is the flickering slo-mo bloodbath that you have expected at every turn.
Is it great? Probably not but then few films really are.
Is it worth seeing? yes, yes, oh yes.
Follow Ups:
...Polanski's MacBeth really helped me enjoy Shakespeare as did Mr Knight, my English teacher, the one who'd call us 'amoebas' for not getting his importance.

I find that if I concentrate on Shakespeare's language it gets harder nto understand, but if I let it flow over me, I can follow the "sense" quite easily and enjoy it much more.
The film uses the play more or less intact. In truth I am guessing at that, but it certainly sounds like it.
I think the comparison betweenthe royal courts and criminal gangs is at least an interesting one and the similarities between major criminals and rock stars in so far as they feel themselves omnipotent over their "kingdoms" ia entirely believable.
Whilst lady Macbeth isas seductive as can be, the 3 witches move from schoolgirls to... well, you'll just have to see the film.
Oh, keep an eye out for how the "Birnam wod comes to Dunsinane" thing is included...
