  going from performances in Taxi Driver, Joe, Monster's Ball to stuff like Young Frankenstein (which he played spot on) to the Everybody Loves Raymond series - he showed quite a lot of range and a chameleon like personae.

  Always a joy to watch him work. Not a "pretty" or leading man type but he charismatically inhabited every role. And he could carry a movie if need be. A real natural, I think.

  I saw him in "Joe" when it was first released and thereafter many times. It was a treat to follow his wonderful career. By the way, even though a bit dated, Joe is still a complex and powerful, substantive film.
