TCM, the great "basic cable" commercial free movie station, had freak night last night where they showed "Freaks", Lynches version of "Elephant Man" and a few other odd films in the freak theme. It was great to see them again after so many years. Elephant Man was in letterbox-nice!
Follow Ups:
Chaney gives one of the silent (or any) era's great performances.
This film has aged perfectly, with its horror as fresh today as when it was released in 1927. Truly, an intelligent film that internalizes its fear.
Chaney portrays a carnival armless knife-thrower (really) who falls for his beautiful assistant. She, coincidence of coincidences, has a phobia for being touched by men's hands, including those of the carnie strongman to whom she otherwise is attracted.
Chaney becomes so enraged he'll murder anyone that he sees as a barrier to his unfortunate love.
A bonus: the very young, amazingly huge-eyed (almost freakish!) Joan Crawford plays the triangle's point of interest.

Hearing, "Hi, I'm Robert Osborne" is very comforting.

I just upped my Comcast another $14.00/mo for a few additional channels like IFC,A&E BIO,Sundance and some Discovery channels but TCM was sadly not among them...Cable companies are scum... you can quote me.

I just got a Comcast price list in the mail with my bill. TCM is now part of the "Comcast Sports Entertainment Pack" which costs $7.95 a month. For that you get a bizarre assortment consisting of sports channels (Fox Soccer, NFL Network, Speed Channel, etc.), BET on Jazz, Bloomberg business news, TV Guide channel, Fox Movie Channel, and TCM.

it's always been part of the basic package, thankfully. Of course, I don't have Comcast ;)

"There's a horrible farty smell in here and it didn't come from my bottom!"Ah the Young Ones, great times......thanx for the pic/reminder
You get about 40-50 stations you'll never watch for the dozen or so that are essential. Do I want or need 6 home shopping networks??? The soap channel????I gotta have the locals/PBS, IFC, BBC-America, C-Span, CNN, CBC, HBO, TCM, Sci-Fi, ESPN, History Channel, HGTV and Discovery HD. The rest of my 250 channels are mostly junk.
