Got it from Netflix anticipating a good comedy. It did have a few chuckles, but was just another rectal exam of the middle-class American family from the elitist's perspective. The cute curmudgeonly Grandpa who's also porn & heroine addicted; the stressed-out failed Dad, the struggling Mom, the angry teen. Of course the only rational one is the suicidal gay uncle. And child beauty pageant people are weird, but its OK to have an eight year-old girl do a bump & grind striptease? I'm still scratching my head about that one.

Follow Ups:
I have to revise my view of your posting.
I must have read it to quick.
In fact, now, I agree absolutely with what you wrote.
The few words that I wrote on this film, before on this forum show it too.
The only thing we do not is that I see it as a critic, and you not worth for this name.
Next time I will take more time....

On was on the fence about this one just as a way to kill an evening, until the cop-out ending. The direction was heavy handed and Arkin was featured in another nothing role.

Satire is fine, but why does it have to be so predictably crass and over-the-top?If children's struggle and identity in a comedy is your bag, I recommend a charming Korean movie called "Like a Virgin" (2006)

in the others' performances but which, oweing to their "familiarity," had lost their transparency.
What I found ridiculous was that a fat kid was somehow unusual or to be treated as "special." We're a nation of stupendously obese kids: she is the goddamned norm!

Satire has to have some relationship to reality. LMS didn't.
