...seeing the actors you love getting too old.Last night seeing O'Toole, Eastwood, Nicholson, Keaton was such a sad reminder of the effect of merciless time...
Very few people age gracefully, and we all remember Audrey's sudden and brief appearance - but she was an exception.
For me Nicholson shall remain David Locke of "Profession: Reporter".

and there is always the montage of the actors and other people that have died during the year. Now these people are not my friends or family, and yet, I am moved by their passing. And maybe, as you say, it is generally the passage of time itself.

Some of those people I did not care for when they lived, but still, the sadness is real.

I think they should pack the front rows with stars of today and *yesteryear*. Acknowledging their own history shows a bit of class and sensitivity. Besides that - it's fun ! And what about sexy ol' Hellen Mirran?Sure - the Oscars are a commercial for the Hollywood industry but despite that ....
Overall - I thought the skits, the dancing, Al Gore and Ellen D. were excellent.
Personally I miss the "old days" when chaos and unpredictability was possible and personal expression more present but I still thought there were subtle and not so subtle political messages that I respected and entertainment galore.
In my opinion - A good show !
