My wife's take on the film was that she hated the morality of it - that nice old man (Jacke) getting killed, Virginia going into spontaneous combustion, etc. - all to allow for the survival of Eli. She claimed the moral and heroic thing for Eli to do would be to expose her(?)self to the sun and burn up like Virginia!
As for me, I was deeply impressed by the sadness of it all, and I found the ending to be disturbing, as Oskar rides the train, settling into his new role as Eli's "keeper". The director says the movie has a happy ending. I just can't see that interpretation. Nevertheless, this was definitely the best film of last year (at least of the ones I've seen so far).
interetsing take on the morality of it by your wife. But it is a vampire. Human morals don't apply. I'm sure your average cow or chicken would find human morality quite horrible were they able to contemplate it.
past several.
The best film of last year (shared with Waltz with Bashir).

...who said it was the best film of the year.
Not even close, IMO, and there are a couple of Academy Award nominees I haven't seen yet (Reader and Doubt).
I'd give it a solid B.
and I stand by it.
"Let the Right One In" is one of the best horror films in a long time--- I can't remember an equal since "The Sixth Sense."
But the Swedish film also is a very potent love story which elevates it even further.
I really did.
She'll be pissed at me all week but sometimes ya just gotta force em off the HGTV and Fude channel.
I like them with subtitles as I can't hear for shite.
.
If you allow it to 'Let The Right One In' can and will sneak up on you, put a sack over your head and pull you in...rather effective film making really.

If you want great photography and a compelling story see "Gilles Wife".
gets better on repeated watching.

...seen that for the first time yet. Are they equally good?

...and probably one of his all time favorite films.
If you consider a good film one where numerous large-breasted girls pole-dance topless and then continue as their flesh deteriorates.
..I was trying to be an understated troll, there. Tough.
