Just had the Director´s cut.
Well no film can have a chance against a well done hours long tv´s series.
So in this case too.
Worse, you have that digital shit ( the boat, much worse as for the Titanic ) and an evident lack of money for the big scenes, that do hurt.
The actors try hard, and in the end are a pale copy of the original acting, a mimic at best.
What is made better, maybe, is the central them of Catholisism.
Maybe I will take another look at the TV´s.
Now who can compete with this??
Jeremy Irons, Anthony Andrews, Diana Quick. John Gielgud, Laurence Olivier, Stéphane Audran Claire Bloom-
Anthony Andrews, Laurence Olivier.
That is unique.
here:
Thank you for the ( long...) link...
I think on the whole a fair and good critic, save the passage on Michael Gambon!
I think he was most brilliant.
To mention the wonderful Michael Gambon!
He is on top. Maybe the best actor in BOTH films.
I read the book after viewing the episodes on PBS. In the book homosexuality is directly referenced, but without any graphic descriptions. The TV version if anything downplayed the homosexuality of Sebastian, but was balanced by a brief topless shot of Diana Quick... I would say that the TV version expressed about 95-97% of the book. This came out when I was in HS and I remember all of the girls going gaga over Jeremy Irons and the actor playing Sebastian.
The movie sank quickly which was about what it deserved.
Best,
Ross
That is what I thought. The film is more open ( the 2009::) that the TV´s.
But what about the central theme of Catholicism.
Which of them is the better in this.
Maybe I should read the book..
and it did not include any male lip smacking action or blatant homosexuality. I found the movie offensive.
ON Wiki I read that the book very explicitly speak about homosexuality.
Was there no words of sodomites?
No kissing...
Offensive? I did not. Even if, I suppose like you, I don´t like seeing two men kissing or fucking...
We are old goats....
I presume it was the original manuscript. The series won accolades for following the book verbatim.
Regardless, the movie was just cheesy.
I like the way it centered more ( as I remember ) than the series, on the central theme: Catholicism.
The film says, Atheist the book ( I read ) Agnostic...Can you remember?
.
Of course I did.
It is on the self. For a second view. ( or for the whole truth I already had a second quick view for admiring Monsieur Blanche, which is in the series, 10000000000000000000 better that in the film.
Let us know when you saw it..
