Well, late is in luck, as here we have not just one but two wonderful nominees:
The Professional - great film with JP Belmondo.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082949/
Un Flic - Richard Crenna, Alain Delon and Catherine Deneuve
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067900/
Both not just "available", but streaming available!
Five guys are "selected" to participate in a big caper for their talents, No one seems to know who is sending them out but it might be Mr Nam.
They pull the heist but end up taking a female hostage with them. Upon their arrival they find their #1 smoldering ashes which leads to a discipline breakdown and questions of who knows what? This is where the film begins to flash backwards and forward giving us glimpses of the teams tie-ins and criminal history.
The film has used Reservoir Dogs as a big piece of inspiration as well as "The Usual Suspects". I found it tedious at times but enjoyable for the most parts as the remaining four characters have four distinct personalities and ways of dealing with the fortune they possess.
I'd give it a whopping 5 outta 10.

Please, not yet another Hong-Kong one either! After a while they all assume that sameness quality, much like Lifetime TV movies.

I take these matters very seriously! :)

Btw. I have his video, and I picked up 1 valuable tip I would have never learned from anywhere.
There are some amazing shooters out there... I am a fairly serious shooter myself, but of course nowhere near that speed... although I am quite fast by "normal people" standards.

.....to the point I can take better advantage of good triggers than average shooters.
Weapons, discipline, sport?

....but also semi-auto pistols and shotguns, and vintage WW1, WW2 military bolt and latest bullpup semi-autos, and ar15s with very fine triggers.
The reason why I became a fan of revolvers is that I can practice to my heart's content inside my condo with laser target devices without having to reset the trigger manually like semi's.
Besides when one is really good with revolvers, one can actually fire them faster than semi's.

...shoot these guns. I doubt you could outrun that one with its 1 lb trigger.

...problem with those light triggers is that return spring is also light and as a result the trigger reset is not quick.
My belief is that optimal pound spring has to be chosen based on:
1. One's index finger length relative to grip circumference, and length on the dominant side of the grip and on the dominant hand
2. How strong that index finger is
3. Trigger length
4. Trigger width
5. Trigger pull length
6. Very important! Ratio of recoil spring pound to trigger spring pound, the reason why this is so important is that recoil spring will decide how fast the slide moves back and forth, and that affect the trigger reset.

That smith makes guns for champions, he knows his stuff. All the springs are pretty standard, BTW. I think his trick - and it IS some trick - is in the sear, as nobody knows how he consistently gets reliable triggers in the 1 - 1.5 lb range. On that particular gun the trigger eventually went to 15 oz, at which point it started having some issues, but up to that point it was rock solid, I put over 30,000 rounds through it without any issues - and I bought it used. His other gun, the one I am presently using (in the picture here), has slightly heavier trigger, by maybe 6oz, and it is incredibly fast.

I can't stand their gun fight scene in general, especially those John Woo style Hong Kong stuff....too 'ballety', too much choregraphy.
For the same reason, I was never a fan of matrix.

hard to believe it is 16 years old.

.....can you recommend which of Kitano's movies are better than 'Sonatine'?
The silliness in the middle was overworked (I'm not Japanese--it may have been great) but overall it was more pensive than violent. The ending did disappoint as I wanted to see a happy old man.
I did think there was a lot of humor in it.

I consider this to be more of a mystery presented as visual poetry.
Gonin looks to have a good bit of humor...that's Beat for you.

....that you haven't seen either one yet.
Btw. I haven't seen 'gonin', either, but waiting to see it on a big screen on local arts movie theater.
Funny how Crenna seemed to sneak into a lot of interesting movies. Underrated, I think.

A great flick and a personal favorite. A still from the opening scene pictured above.
