...it can be macabre comedy too, like "Fearless vampire killers" or "I sell the dead"

I saw The Cabin in the Woods on Sunday and would definitely add it to my list.

And yes - having your mother-in-law in the room doubles your fun!

Geez, it is great in so many regards, I could just make it a daily recommendation - take two Montenegro before dinner...

Very smart movie. Horror for adults. Good story, great cast. Highly recommended.

performance by John Beck. However, I take it back, Anthony Hopkins' performance cancelled out Beck's no show with gobs left over. Recommended.

Asian horror...you can hardly go wrong with Korean film. They love the scary and macabre.
You can even watch them!

Do you have an Asian Big Dog in personnel management?

The Ring, Evil Dead series, Fright Night, The Frighteners, The Thing (John Carpenter), Let the Right One In, Dawn of the Dead (recent one with Sarah Polley), Poltergeist, Psycho, The Birds, Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, Silence of the Lambs (more a thriller), Alien (haunted house in outerspace), The Exorcist, Lost Boys, Phantasm, The Sixth Sense, Re-Animator, The Wicker Man (original), Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later, Resident Evil, Videodrome, Blue Velvet, Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer, Near Dark, Eraserhead, Cat People, Zombieland, Drag Me to Hell, The Others, The Vanishing (Dutch), Don't Look Now, The Hitcher (Rutger Hauer), Tremors, Dressed to Kill, Final Destination (first one), Scanners, Angel Heart, Pan's Labyrinth, Pumpkinhead, The Gift, Altered States, Night Watch, The Stepfather (Terry O'Quinn), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tv series), 12 Monkeys, The Hidden, and Predator.
28 Weeks Later was enjoyable, as well.
Exorcist III
Pulse, from 2006, a remake of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Kairo - which I would also put on the list.
I think Michael Rooker did such a good job in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, that it slowed down his subsequent career.

X2
I'll add "A Tale of Two Sisters". It's probably may favorite.
As believable a story of survival as one could imagine given the genre. The music at the beginning definitely didn't hurt.
To your (great) list I'd add Return of the Living Dead. Very funny but at its core, quite serious, and my favorite zombie flick.
I'd also add American Horror Story. Unrelentingly dark and probably the scariest thing ever on network TV. I can't timagine Season 2 even approaching the scares of Season 1.

I'll add a few more:
Legend of Hell House, Juon (japanese version), Dark Water (Japanese version), Kairo (Pulse) (Japanese version), Cursed (Japanese version), Shutter (Thai version), Versus, Tomie (all), ***Uzumaki***(a personal fave), Tale of Two Sisters, The Eye (HK? version), Mirrors (Korean version), Death Note, Spider Forest, Whispering Corridors (All), Forbidden Love (Korean TV series), The Heirloom (thai), The Twins effect, 999-9999 (Thai-rather gory), Green Snake (not sure of this title), Moon Over Tao.
There are lots of others I'm forgetting.
JackPS. 1408 is a good Hollywood horror flick-no gore etc, but good atmosphere.

I would add The Haunting, a timeless movie of classic unseen horror. See the 1963 version.

That said, Thailand did contribute quite a few movies to the wave of Asian Horror in the 2000's. Generally not as good as the best Japanese or Korean horror, but they did make a few good ones.
