Characters: Le Boof and Pearce. Pearce is one of the creepiest looking villains to hit the screen in a while. Too creepy. I found it hard to look at him. Sure, there are bad, weird people in the world but this was over the top. As for Le Boof, well he was just the same overgrown adolescent he always is.
Now the plot is "based" on real events and there is plenty of action, maiming, and killing to satisfy. The story is predictable as we have all seen plenty of prohibition, law-breaking movies. The bright spots of the film were Chastain (fan dancer on the run), Hardy (WW1 and the Spanish Flu couldn't kill him), and Oldman (gangster on the run) who wasn't on screen enough.
The is a big budget film with the standard high end look weighed down by predictability and two characters you would like to see dead by the second scene.
no more so than many others before him. His demise was particularly unsatisfying recalling all the mayhem he directly was responsible for.
SPOILER:
His shooting of 2/3rds of the family when they were trying to shoot him seemed a tad unbelievable: didn't them boys know how to shoot straight?
The quality of a film like this hinges upon the violence set pieces. In that respect, this one failed. The director just ain't got the knack.

Was that the same Bondurant, as The Bondurant School of High Performance Driving?

Hide it~ nothing looks better..
I wanted him dead 1 minute after seeing him but that would have robbed us of numerous scenes he flat out stole.
Lebeouf was OK. My problem with him is the attorney who brutally cross examined me for a whole freekin day at a trial a few years ago is the spitting image of him. Ungodly resemblance. Especially when LeBouf slicked back his hair.
Hardy, whom I'm only vaguely familiar with, played that stoic, heroic, character well.

barely "in-the-closet" looks were too much for me eyes to bare.

by Pearce's portrayal . I tried to tell Mrs. Nasty about him but don't possess the vocabulary to convery his utter repugnancy

Ouch, couldn't resist :-).
Hey, I read an entire report on the Tiger's game w/out ONE mention of your QB. Lots of praise for the RBs, however.
for the Ducks usual fine stable of runners. Blue and Hilliard are simply otherworldly power runners with decent speed.

That makes no sense if he's the heavy.
Penelope Cruz: too pretty!
Leonardo: too pretty! (okay, he's really obnoxious, too).
Pearce's character was too creepy and oily for my delicate sensibilities. Has nothing to do with "scary".
