Watching the Indie and a couple of other tv channels featuring older movies (50's-60's), we commented about how those old flicks were based on human stories, with subtle and complicated interactions between people. Fewer scripts then based on shooting and cars.
We wondered where they went, because that kind of movie-making isn't done much anymore. Some speculation about changing social behaviors, etc., but the bottom line -- in our discussion at least -- was that television itself has killed off (or changed) the movies by changing people's expectations about how to act in social settings. Plus people do not personally interact as much because of all the electronic interfacing and diversion.
Folks don't do subtle and complex as much any more, therefore little interest in it when seen on the screen.
Just wondering here; no real science to throw out.
There are tons of good films about people made elsewhere.
Indies are not panacea, unfortunately... I would say at least 60% of it is very primitive and pale.
...multiplex today.
Young people - teenagers and 20-somethings.
Movies are mostly based on their interests.
Adults these days are home watching Downton Abbey I guess.

Never used in same conversation that contains subject matter concerning the Canine or Feline Units.
