Screw the critics. They go to a movie to critique and/or criticize. I went expecting little and was swept away with the flow and non-stop action. Depp didn't necessarily "make" the movie as much as the whole of the cast and direction. I moved beyond "this is really CGI" and got into enjoying myself. I think this film will get stronger legs in the coming week and should sell a jillion DVDs to the kids who will watch it set on repeat. To me the best scene was when Hammer was discussing the situation with assembled tribal chiefs. Lots of irony and humor especially since Tonto wasn't invited. Later Tonto asked, "Did my name come up?" You bet it did.
Depp was good (despite his character having no depth), Hammer passable, Fitchner and Wilkinson excellent with Barry Pepper doing a good turn as a George Custer clone. No real disappoints here. Do not despair as Rossini gets his moment.
Definitely three chipmunk cheeks full of popcorn.

Who knew ?
.... I'm at a loss for decent words to describe this disaster. "Twlight" is a masterpiece by comparison. I think audience word of mouth is going to sink this more quickly than the professional reviews could ever hope to.
I read the reviews and saw the previews and expected something much worse. This is the way I approach MSC (Main Stream Cinema) so as not to be frothing by the time I leave. As I said, I slipped into the story and the feel of the film. The Rossini segment got me going and I appreciated the story telling device of the museum.
I feel better for seeing it rather than having skipped it. I won't be doing that with "The Heat".
It is much more pleasant to go with the flow than to sit there and enumerate the critical errors.
...the one where they attempt to portray cannibalism with humorous undertones among other things. I don't think so. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Yes, it Is! No, It Isn't!
I don't know, it's Life In a Nutshell, somehow!
Maybe the First Black Hole in Hollywood History.
It only takes one...
which would be a riot.
THEN he should win some sort of award.
After the dust settles.

...or at least the decline of Disney. It's going to be interesting to read the financial pages on Monday to get the "analyst's" take on this production's weakness and its effect on Disney's earnings specifically and what it portends for Hollywood in general.
