Ready for a dark mood? Well, the overcast, drizzle, and night time settings will certainly help you get there. Two girls disappear Thanksgiving afternoon setting off a rampaging father (Jackman) and a world-weary detective (Gyllenhaal). The supporting cast is excellent as the story makes a few serious twists and turns. When the film began it had a rather pedestrian, been-there-done-this feel that melted into a seriously involving drama after a few scenes. This is worth a walk in.
During the trailers leading up to the film Gyllenhaal's character was named Det. Loki. I immediately thought he's got something to do with the crime since we pretty much know who Loki was. Anybody else get that vibe?
I don't follow...do youyou mean the god Loki or the Marvel characer Loki?
And no, I didn't get the vibe that Det. Loki was involved wibth the abduction. But as a key to character...for sure he was named after thenearly god Loki for a reason.
...reviewers have said the first two acts are brilliant, but it all falls apart toward the end.
Sounds like a video to me.
There are some missteps but IMO the film finishes up strong. Weak 3rd act is not an issue.
...when it comes out on DVD.
...it dragged and would have benefited from being 30 minutes shorter.
