I actually enjoyed the film. Fast paced, action packed. Old and new characters. I liked seeing the old members and the changing of the guard with new ones. Good popcorn film IMO. I would rank it right up there with my personal reaction to the first two released way back when.

I never did think much of the series, but perked up a bit with the prequel back stories. Finding this new one to be a rehash brought me back to square one.
But that's just MO. I suspect many folks enjoyed the Ford-Fisher reconnect.
It was so much better than the last two or three IMO. That helped it greatly for me. Certain amount of nostalgia for me also. I was a young man standing in a very long line with my girlfriend to see the first one when it came out. But you are right about how individuals react.

All of the prequels were trash - I walked out of the Phantom Menace and it has to be really bad before I do that. In fact it may be the only movie I walked out on.
And for those of you who hated the Phantom Menace as much as me - watch the far more entertaining Mr. Plinket review of the film - I have seen the review about 5 times and the review itself is vastly more entertaining and rewatchable than all the prequels put together.
One thing is for sure as the guy in the uTube video points out. We will probably never see the end of the series. Disney paid a huge sum for it and will probably be offering variations on the theme long after I kick the bucket.

I enjoyed part 6 about the lightsaber battles and part 7 when you see Lucas and his team watching the finished product in dismay at how awful the movie was and knowing they could not fix it in editing.
Basically they knew they released a turd onto the market.
I didn't really have an issue with the Force Awakens though because sure it's a total ripoff in one sense of the original movie - but the 12 year olds watching the movie weren't around for the original movie - and 12 year olds is the target audience - so why screw with the formula.
The second film can now, hopefully, go in a totally new direction because the first one hooked the audience enough. Rey is a strong enough character to hang your hat on as well so with luck (and please this time a good script) it could be a much better movie. Empire was to Star Wars so you never know.
I'm going to take the same approach and give it a stream when available.
Enjoyed the first three, the middle three were terrible, the next 407 have potential I guess!
