What kind of horror movie has an Elvis sing-a-long, true romance, and a happy ending? Just this one. 'The Conjuring' got a few rises out of me but this one has Disney Dust blown on it. There are one or three quick rises but pretty humdrum for the rest of the film. There is quite of bit of suspension of disbelief required.
Wilson and Farmiga turn in their yeomen performances with the help of a Brit cast that does its part as well. A standout would be Madison Wolfe who plays the inhabited 11 year-old who resides in the trouble house.
This film doesn't really scare-up the seasoned audience but may prove entertaining to young or occasional movie-goer. Tread lightly.
Follow Ups:
It takes a lot for me to be made to jump out of my seat at home, but the first Conjuring did it. Made my skin crawl too.
That said, I was a bit disappointed by the ending.

...says it was the scariest film she's seen in a long time.
It had a lot of good character development, especially so for a horror movie.
The frightening scenes were decently scary, (not the scariest I've seen, but in character with the movie).
Both my 16 y.o. daughter and myself liked it quite a bit.
(As did most people and most reviewers who saw it.
77% of critics and 87% of the audience liked it.
FYI: the reviewer for Upcominghorrormovies.com (UHM) gave it 8 out of 10 stars. (And it got an average of 7.8 stars from other fans of that site.)
The last few good horror movies that Billy Wonka has reviewed he has not liked, despite the fact that both the audiences and even the critics liked them.
Sorry Billy, but I no longer look to you for reviews of horror movies.
movies. Con2 was just too Disneyfied for me. Elvis sing along? Give me a break. Horror should be nightmarish or relentless. Imitating Elvis breaks up the storyline and eases the sense of urgency. The cheesy romance at the end also reduced the previous emotions generated. Ideally, a person should leave a good horror story unsettled. That's my personal take.In addition, the best "scares" were in the trailers which I saw half a dozen times. Perhaps those few adrenal spikes others might have experienced were muted for me due to being inoculated by the previews. This has become a big problem with horror and bad comedy film previews.
