Select users of Movie Pass got emails explaining that our service agreements were changing and that we would no longer have unlimited access to a movie every 24 hours.
My option was $30/unlimited. I am now offered $40/6 movies or $99/unlimited!
Come to find out this was only a small segment of their subscribers that received the new dictum which goes into effect on Aug 3rd. According to their website there has been ongoing research to see what new tiered pricing plans should look like by the first of the year. The research started a few months before Mitch Lowe officially took over the first of July. Mitch (Netflix, Redbox, etc) obviously wants this to be a prime money makers and take it public.
Even though there has been a short apology to those in the research groups there has been no retraction of their Draconian plans to run off mostly the retirees like me. Oddly, Movie Pass has been around for about four years and there has been no cry of bankruptcy so this is about profit over public relations.
So, faced with $40/6 movies it probably looks like bon voyage to something that was too good to be true. The new rate saves me maybe $6 dollars over six films---about the same I could get by saying "senior".
Follow Ups:
play the Senior card every chance you get.I do and I'm just shy of 58.
First time some youngster asked if I was a Senior I said no.
However, OTHER young whippersnappers have just ASSUMED I am a Senior and given me the SD,
so I'll go with that.Works for me but I'm sure there's soon going to be a time when I eventually get carded in order
to buy booze AND get the Senior discount. The Powers That Be are likely working on that conundrum right this minute.
IF you were born on this date before ----- you CAN NOT BUY ALCOHOL!
IF you were born on this date between ---- and ---- YOU GET NO SENIOR DISCOUNT!Whatever - hope you still get to see as many good, bad and ugly movies as you
can for an "affordable" price and report your findings here.

...most theaters have senior deals on popcorn and drinks.
But Mitch has different ideas on what unlimited is. I know a lot of people have probably contacted the NY AG'S office. Somebody posted the link.
on Netflix combined with this issue I say string him up!

MoviePass, the subscription service that lets you see one theatrical film every 24 hours, has come under fire after testing out new pricing options with some customers, which are significantly more expensive and restrictive than existing plans. The complaints also come on the heels of this week's announcement of a new CEO: Mitch Lowe, a Netflix co-founder who later moved over to RedBox.
While the service typically starts around $30 a month (though it varies by market, it's $45 monthly in NYC), a select group of users have received emails saying their plans will move to $40 or $50 a month with a limit of six films. For truly unlimited viewing, they have the option of paying $99 a month, a price significantly above anything MoviePass has charged before. Previously, MoviePass subscribers could see one film a day on their base plans, the only restriction was they could only see each film once.
"We're trying to understand all the different considerations about different price points," Lowe said in an interview today. He stressed that the company is only testing new pricing with an incredibly small portion of its subscribers, and these messages don't reflect new rates for all customers.
In particular, he discovered that the $99 plan won't work at all. "Our goal was to try to see what the uppermost limit was and we definitely found that that was too high," he said. While it might seem unfair to loyal customers to simply throw expensive new rates at them, Lowe defended that method, saying that it's "the only way to really get a valid test... If you give people a choice, they almost always take what you'd expect, so you don't learn anything."
Mentioning 'senior' in that realm will get you extra laughter.
***about the same I could get by saying "senior".***
I suspect you will get the same even if not saying that dreaded word. :)
A cashier asked for my birthday and I told her. She said "okay". I said it fast without thinking about it. That's how they know if you are fudging.
Someone asked me what my sister's name was.
How's THAT for oneupmanship?

Limited opportunity laughter. Good one.
...no doubt you are a "heavy user" and it was costing them more money to pick up your dropped popcorn after each movie than you are paying.
guzzling cola (which I do).
I've not seen anything pertaining to Movie Pass actually having connections with theaters in the way of giving MP a discount on ticket prices.
So, I'm in the "incredibly small" test group. Ha!
