I never liked Bertolucci, I consider him just a B director, who for some reason never got enough sex. His obsession is ridiculous, and the very idea of capturing the real emotions is counter to the very essence of acting as art.
As far as Marlon - yes, there are many stories about him, but unlike Bertolucci, he left behind a very solid and credible body of work.
Unfortunately, many artists were real bastards in their lives.
Follow Ups:
'The Last Emperor'. It collected seven Oscars and should have gotten them all. It was a class production. I need to break it out soon. The acting was incredible even though Huppert was not in it.
.
Titanic is as described.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
But Bertolucci is not that film. The quintessential Bertolucci is The Dreamers.
