...my daughter comes in on Friday and we're all going to see it at the IMAX on Saturday.
But when I went to the multiplex yesterday to see Shape of Water, I was amazed that half of the 16 theaters were showing Star Wars.
But if that's the case all over the country and it only came in 2nd in opening box office to the last Star Wars, what gives?
At my multiplex, they've just changed all of the seating to recliners (and raised the admission price by $5) so each theater only seats about half of what it did before.
Follow Ups:
Disney slapped on some pretty onerous requirements if theaters wanted to show The Last Jedi. Three of them: increased Disney's box office cut above traditional, requires multiplex to show it on their largest screen, requires multiplex to show up it for four consecutive weeks regardless of audience size in later weeks. There are many other requirements including agreement to financial penalties for lack of compliance.
And after you sign up there is a MINIMUM number of hours per day you MUST watch it or face fines and upped
monthly charges (the LESS hours you watch the MORE you pay).
Plus minimum monthly purchases at the Virtual Disney Store.

...a friend worked for Disney 25 years ago in their video/imaging department.
He said they drove them so hard the employees called it "Mousechwitz".

...and yes, don't mess with Disney but the other stuff, not so much.
Give it time, give it time.
Disney is in it for the long game.
