had his phone number listed in the phone book in the early 60's and alot of his fans would call him up and tell him how much they loved him. That is how Dick Van Dyke got to know Laurel... saw his number and called it on a whim just to see... They became friends and I believe Van Dyke gave a eulogy at Laurel's funeral in 1965. Laurel wrote most if not all of their routines. He really was a genius. The film has gotten pretty good reviews...

My sister, as a high schooler, read in the newspaper that he was in the hospital in santa monica so went over to see him . Said he was real nice and she was glad she got to tell him in person that she was a fan.
Cool story... I'm glad she was able to let him know she was a fan... He WAS a comedic genius...
