Hi,
I'm looking for input on complete HT systems. My budget is about $1700.00 for 5.1 or 6.1 speakers; $600 for a receiver and $1500 for a HDTV.
My requirements are that the system do justice to music, too, as well as movies.
Here's what I've looked at so far and am considering:
SPEAKERS:
First on my list:
Aperion Audio's 5.1 or 6.1 INTIMUS system w/S-12 (12") - Soundstage Reviewer's Choice award winner.
Second on my list:
Axiom Audio's 5.1 system using highly-regarded and musical M3ti speakers for front LR and their own 10" sub.
Third on my list:
Ascend Acoustics' 5.1 system w/HSU VTF-2 10" sub. Recommended for music afficionados at cheaphometheater.comHDTV:
Haven't picked one, yet, but am leaning toward one w/o an ATSC tuner so that I can pick my own later on. Suggestions on the monitor?RECEIVER:
Outlaw Audio 1050DVD PLAYER:
Currently own a Technics A10 - don't believe it has progressive scan.
Follow Ups:
For the HDTV, I am very very pleased with my Panasonic 47WX49. I just had it calibrated by Gregg Loewen, who tours the country, and the picture is simply amazing -- detail, colors, sharpness, the whole nine yards. He has a source that can deliver these sets pretty cheaply, maybe within your budget. His e-mail is gloewen@starband.net, and tell him Darren T. in San Diego sent you. You're not going to find much under $2K, though, so $1,500 may be unrealistic . . .

That is an interesting phrase, The whole nine yards. Is that a local expression or is it in general use in the US ? I have never heard it before so if you could give me any info on its origin I would be most obliged.

it's a reference to American Football refering to the 9 yards left of 10 for completion of a '1st Down'... So, needless to say it's VERY much local to the US (since everyone else plays soccer!)That in my estimation was the whole-enchilada on the whole-9-yards... and perhaps i threw in all AND the kitchen sink!
Not sure if anyone will see this reply since the thread appears stale... but the "9-yards" expression was coined during World War II. The fighter pilots who went on strafing runs loaded their onboard machine guns with belts of ammunition. Each belt was 9 yards in length. If the pilot dumped the entire belt into his target, he was said to give it "the whole 9 yards"

Thank you so much for the information, we think its a wonderful expression.
Incidentally, in Australia we don't understand soccer. Our National team is not something we care to discuss.

But then you guys play Australian rules Football, which to us Americans appears to be a combination of American football, soccer, and rugby. Fascinating to watch, but I can't figure out what's going on.
cheers
Doug
