I have a "mid-fi" home theater system using a Denon DVD-2800 as the source for CD and DVD. The 2800 makes video that looks OK and audio that sounds OK, but, it is damn picky with both DVDs and CDs. It will skip, and sometimes refuse to play sections of brand new CDs or DVDs that have been handled carefully prior to putting in the unit for the first time. It also will have some problems (intermittent) with playing the second layer on a DVD movie.Does anyone have suggestions for a CD / DVD player in the $3K or under range that may be a better choice?
Pre-amp: - Denon 4802
Power amp: BAT VK-6200

That BAT amp and B&W's hardly fall into the midfi category. Add these to your list...Camelot Roundtable, Meridian 596, and Muse Nine or Thalia. New all cost a little more, used at or under your target. The source is one of the most important links...don't skimp there!

You also get multichannel SACD with this player as a bonus.
I am not sure how it will compare to other high end players, but the way technology is going I am reluctant to spend high dollars on a DVD player that will be surpassed in one year.
