I'm considering buying a projector to use in my home theater setup. I live in a loft...my room is 70 ft long by 22 ft wide and my ceilings are 25 ft high. Ceiling mount is almost out of the question and I don't want a projector sitting in the middle of the floor.
18 feet will have to be the minimun throw for me to consider for a projector. I would like the projector to be against one wall and throw the image 18 to 22 ft across to the other wall. Is this attainable and still get good picture quality?

Sure, it can be done. Runco's VSX1000 comes with varios lenses which would help you achieve these results. Maybe something you havent thought of, what about a rear projection DLP? Locate the projector behind, let say, a motorized screen.

I once projected mine on a sheet across a street for a block party in NYC. Admittedly, I had to drive the white level pretty hard.Your lens(es) must be pretty good and brightness could be a problem with older units. Mine is currently 17 feet away with an image about 100" wide. Like being up front in the theatre. I wouldn't have it any other way. All I usually watch is movies, but I did CSI in Hi-Deff last night and it was stunning!

I don't have a prjector or screen. I'm trying to see if a projector is a feasible idea for my room.

some projectors, especially older models and many CRT's will need reduced ambient light.
