I understand that most DVD players pause for 1/4 - 1 second when changing layers on so-encoded DVDs. I have owned a Creative Labs Dxr2 PC-DVD for over a year and have never experienced this problem. (Probably because there's ample buffer memory on the Dxr2 hardware decocder card). However, I'm sick of hauling my PC upstairs whenever I want to watch a DVD and I'm looking for a component unit to supplement my HT. My question is, are there any DVD players out there that don't have the pause while changing layers? If so, which ones?I know some people find this 1/4 - 1 second pause barely noticable, and I would too, if all layer changes happened between scenes. This doesn't seem to be the case, however. For example, the Aliens layer change apparently happens right in the middle of a scene where they're talking about the floor plans for the atmosphere processor and surrounding settlement. This would be annoying to watch on a DVD player that suddenly pauses for even a partial second.
Anyways, I look forward to hearing if any players can do this!
Thanks guys,

Well I was able to test out some Sony DVD players on this problem at the Sony Store using the 2 Dual-Layered DVDs I own: Aliens and Ghostbusters. There is good news and bad news. First, the bad news: all Sony DVD players were unable to eliminate the pause during the layer change (including the 7700). The good news: The layer changes all happened in between scenes, in spots where the change is very low-key, and it's very hard to notice. (The DVD FAQ gives incorrect times where the layer changes are, which is why I thought that at least Aliens had a change in the middle of a conversation). Also, all Sony decks took about 1/4 second to switch layers, which is negligible for scene changes like these. So I guess my new question is, do all Dual-Layered discs have layer changes this low-profile, or are there some out there that do in fact break at the worst possible time?
