Now I realize the 9200 is now a discontinued model. I am only interested in one used for the simple fact they were highly prasied as a video source having progressive scan which would be most helpful on a widescreen DLP/RPJ setup and the sound was pretty good from the reports I read as well. Now, Toshiba has a newer model out called the 4800 which also has progressive scan and 24/192 and is much, much less new than the 9200 is used.
With technology getting cheaper as time passes, can I expect the same end result quality in the new model, or does the 9200 still hold it's own and surpass just about everything on the DVD playback road even with the current crop of players offerring the same type features?

Can't tell you much about the video other than it looks great to me, but as a CD Player (Redbook) with added bonus of DVD-Audio, it is worth the used price alone. The CD capabilities match the quality of standalone CD players at the original 9200 retail price. It is a beautiful player and smooth as silk. Akso Stereophile Class B as a CDP. And the DVD-Audio is a real eye-opener. Try The Band's Last Waltz. You are there!
I have the SD-9200 and have compared them with the newer units. The picture is very good ... but where it shines is the audio section.
None of the cheaper players can reproduce PCM sound like the 9200. Believe I have looked and failed to find a cheaper alternative.
If you are serious about music and have a high-end system you will not regret the purchase. Go for it !

I used to have the 9000, and recently upgraded to the 5300(asian model). I have to say that the newer model, though cheaper, surpasses the older top-of-the-line model in both the area of picture and sound quality. However, my 9000 did not have progressive scan, so on the video side, the 9200 should still be comparable to the later models. Does the 9200 have the 3:2 cinema picture pull down?On the audio side, the newer models are superior due to the 24/192 chip.

along with all the little tweaks that went into the 9200.
