Hi all,I have a 2-channel audio system with a DAC. I would now like to watch movies, play MP3s, etc. I want all audio signals to go through my existing 2-channel DAC. Only interested in 2-channel audio.
I'm looking for a DVD player with digital outputs that:
- Can function as a CD transport feeding my DAC. Transport quality is very important.
- Has a "2-channel" mode for DVD playback that sends digital audio to my DAC, like a CD.
- Can do the same with all the other formats (MP3, DVD-Audio, SACD, etc.). A loss of resolution is okay here, I just want to hear it.
Is the Pioneer DV-45a such a player? If not, can you recommend one that I should look at?
I'm guessing that my third requirement is pie-in-the-sky, given what little I've read about DVD-Audio/SACD piracy protection.

"I'm guessing that my third requirement is pie-in-the-sky, given what little I've read about DVD-Audio/SACD piracy protection."Correct. Even if you could access the DSD datastream from an SACD, what would your DAC (unless it's a recent dCS) be able to do with it?
My understanding is that few of the DVD players do CD very well as most concentrate on the DVD side. There are exceptions and I'm told Marantz are in that camp. I have no idea if the Pioneer is any good. You need not worry about the output. Most DVDs give you an audio option in their menu. Obviously you will not want a DVD player with inbuilt procssing for Dolby Digital etc as this would be unused. It would be a good time to shop around for what you want as the manufacturers are now switching to universal players which handle DVD-A & SACD as well as CD/DVD so there are some CD/DVD players being unloaded at good prices.
If you cannot audition much then do a GOOGLE search on players which appeal. You will find hundreds of references and owner experiences will be among those.
