Hello,
I've got an RX-V795A, (3yrs old) standing-in as my pre/pro - temporarily. A few weeks ago, I found the following unpleasantness over at Hi-Rez concerning SACD playback using HT receivers:"...many multi-channel receivers/preamps provide multi-channel analog inputs that are routed to analog-to-digital PCM converters, for Digital Signal Processing control, often at 44.1 kHz. The signals are then passed on to a DAC for the final output to the speakers. This "feature" will cause ALL signals, regardless of the source, to be of no better quality than that of CD playback...."
Needless to say, that is NOT good audio news. The owners manual was, of course, useless on this point. So, I call tech support at Yamaha, and was quickly told exactly what I wanted to hear - the "Effect Off" mode is analog direct - no ADC/DAC is used. But, in all honesty, I just don't know...
Regards,M. Lawton
Follow Ups:
I have the same receiver and an sacd player. To have a direct pass through, hook up your player to the external decoder inputs. Then, when you want to play some music select Ext. Dec on the remote or on the faceplate.
