I'm looking for a player to use as CD transport and for movies. I figure a higher end player will be a quieter transport (which is VERY important to me), but I can get a lower end model with progressive for less $$.
Which would have the better picture do you expect? I'm using a 32" WEGA now, but may switch to projection soon.
Any recommendations? Used, most likely.
Thanks!

I'm assuming you have an HDTV Wega that can display PS.If music is important to you, you're probably going to need an external DAC, as the ones in the players and receivers are generally pretty poor...at least by audiophile standards. Even a little ART Di/O can improve them a lot.
That said, the PS Denons have a bit better sound than average. Some of the Pioneer Elites, as well. Beware buying cheap used DVD players.
Your TV can't accept a progressive signal if it's a standard Wega. You need the XBR model. Progressive scan will give you a better picture down the road, but those features don't dictate how the player will perform as a transport. Most low-priced players are terrible for this purpose, but you'll always have to make concessions at any price point.Unless space is the real isssue, I'd stay away from this route--if music matters to you. Even a low priced CD player will out perform a similarly priced DVD player, IME. It's nice to have it all in one box, but until you step way up, music is what usually suffers.
