Vision magazine just came out with a review of the MC 1. They state that because you can't bypass the processor, the two channel sound is rather poor compared to less expensive units...Parasound 2500 and Citation 5 I would appreciate any feedback. Stereophile HT magazine raves about the MC 1. It seems to be a situation where the purchases must choose between good audiophile 2 channel sound or amazing digital processing for video effects. Seems we can't have both. Comments?
If two-channel is that important to you (as it is to me), then you probably already own a good pre-amp which has its own by-pass mode. My Krell KAV-250p does and I can use my MC-1 for HT and the Krell for audio. They integrate well and I can easily switch back and forth using their remotes. In A/B tests with music sources I have had a very hard time distinguishing between the two.
Scroll down to thread starting with "A/V Processor Preamp" for further discussion on merits and shortcommings of the MC-1. I posted a reply discussing the lack of analog pass through with MC-1, hence my choice was for a different pre-pro (Nakamichi CA-1) that is very good with HT and better for music than the MC-1, but for strictly movies and video switching, go with MC-1, which is about the best HT pre-pro out there, with many excellent features incl good video switching (but not component swithing), logic-7 mode, user definable xovers, upgradable platform, and the best remote I've used.Larry
The MC1 is not a bad sounding unit, and is noticeably superior to the DC-1, which I also owned. If your priority is video, the MC1 is unmatched. If it is audio, and you don't mind settling for less in the way of video goodies, other units like the Classe are a bit better sounding.
My solution is to own the MC1 for video, and continue to use my regular audio preamp for all other sources. You can integrate them without too much trouble.

Thanks a ton Bob! As I said to Ron, I've respected Hardesty and Widescreen Review for sometime now, never knew about that site.
In the newest issue of Widescreen Review (Austin Powers on the cover) Richard Hardesty whose opinion I respect greatly states pretty much the same thing for pretty much the same reason (no analog bypass). He also rated
the Parasound 2500 as a superior unit for music.
I guess the consumer must decide whcih is more important...video processing or two channel audiophile sound. I just received a response from a Lexicon owner dealer that states for his sytem he chose the M1 over the Parasound and Citation units. It is a real confusing situation for us poor consumers. Perhaps I should just purchase the Sony TAN9000 ES for $1600 because the Perfect Vision wrote an article that claimed its processing was superior to Parasound's 2500 but was not as good for two channel sound. Thanks for responding.
