One of my neighbors has a chance to land a brand new NEC 50-inch plasma for $5,000. This price would include wall-mounted installation and manufacturer's warranty. Neither of us are sure whether this is truly a good deal. Please share you thoughts.

to the thread links that BruZZi gave you on that "other" forum. There were a few people that got the new NECs in late 2003 and early 2004. The 42" models seem to be excellent performers, though there is some image retention (not too bad) and the blacks are not equal to Panasonic.
However, it was noted that along with the above image retention issue and non-Panasonic blacks, the 50" M2/S model had a problem with noticeable buzzing and possible power supply issues.
$5k is a great deal, but if you end up not being satisfied or the above problems bother you, it might not be the deal you want it to be. Can you try before you buy?
Before I purchased my plasma, I was only considering two models -- the new NEC 50" model was one of them. But after a few owners posted their comments, I decided that it was in my best interest to pass on the NEC.

If it is the consumer product and not the industrial product it is a fantastic deal. The NEC Plasmas are fantastic, they have a very long half life and deliver a fantastic picture. If it is the COnsumer product it retails for $10,000 dollars and dealer cost is about $6500.

Click the link below and scroll down to the consumer/residential version of their 50" plasma (these are the silver bezel models). The price that you see includes delivery. How can the dealer price be more than the quoted delivered price on this new model?
