My parents need a new high quality but basic 36" CRT TV. They don't need it to be HiDef ready but progressive scan capable for DVD would be nice. I haven't kept up on the best sets in terms of quality and dependability. Budget is around $1000 +/- a bit. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

You said +/- a bit. For this price you get HD and PIP also! I found mine at a place called K's Merchandise in Kankakee, IL. I also borrowed a Samsung SIR-T351 HDTV tuner for 30 days from Best Buy. Hi-Def broadcasts looked excellent, but somewhat small from my sofa (8-12 feet away). The Samsung was also a little slow when switching channels so I took it back.

I was in the same position...at the time, the JVC D series were nicely priced & decent quality, especially if your parents are seniors. Also buy a "wee-mote" for seniors, works great and is simple.

..I've seen these listed more toward $1500 but I may need to look harder. Thanks.
