Video Asylum

I'm looking at buying a new HT reciever. I was looking at either the Sony STR-DA3000ES or the Yamaha RX-V1500. I saw that the Sony has quite a bit more power, but I've heard good things about Yamaha as a brand. On the net I can find them for comparable prices. Does anybody have any suggestions why one might be better then the other, I am not a HT expert by any means.
