In Reply to: ONKYO 939-Protect mode.PLEASE help posted by Vijay on February 07, 2000 at 04:29:30:
You need to MAKE SURE that the + and - speaker wires are not touching each other or the chassis. All it takes is a single strand of each set of conductors to make a short. Protect kicks in to keep the amp from frying when there is a short, so check all of your wires. The short may even be at the speaker side of the connections, so check there as well. After you've made sure that no wires are touching you *may* need to unplug and replug the unit back in.Good luck, be careful.
Thanks for your replyAll cables and other equipment have been disconnected.
The reinitialization sequence is... "Power on ; while holding dowm cd button, press video 1 button" After the original post I tried this procedure. The display reads "clear". Then the FM tuner section displays for a few seconds..then protect mode kicks in again.
Vijay,I'd call Onkyo customer service at 1-800-229-1687 then. Good luck!
