Wow........Checked out a few LCD and Plasmas but this thing kills the flat screens. The size works favorably in our situation anyway. Funny thing, I find myself watching HD programming that I normally wouldn't watch so I can admire the resolution just like when I pull out that amazingly well recorded CD just to admire the sonics even though I'd prefer different material. A two edged sword as they say. Once you go HD its a bitch to watch NTSC. Hey, more the reason to watch more 480p DVDs.

on Unniversal HD. If you're into sports, Hi-Def and 5.1 surround sound adds so much more.
it's a great CRT... I bought one a few months back... if you can, get it ISF certified... makes a world of a difference and almost eliminates the nasty RED bug all Sony CRT's have...

...Can't recall what it was called but after going through the calibration steps the picture was significantly better. I calibrated the 'movie' mode preset on my Sony and left the other presents pretty much as they were except for some minor tweaking. I use one of the 'brighter' presets during the day since my room is very open and bright but it's nice having the 'movie' mode preset calibrated for night time movie viewing. Have fun!
Mine is a slightly older Sony XBR 34" 16:9 set coupled to an outboard Samsung HDTV tuner. The PBS channel is great with true HD material and NFL games in HD with Dolby digital sound is fantastic.Although I also own a 42" plasma set which I truly enjoy for it's size and good quality, the Sony CRT still presents a noticably better picture.
