Hello,I just got a new sub that has XLR connectors for Right and Left.
My preamp has one pair of balanced XLR outputs and one pair of unbalanced RCA outputs. My poweramp has one set of balanced XLR inputs.
What's the BEST way to setup this sub?
I was thinking a pair of XLR Y-splitters to split the signal coming out of the pre XLR connectors sending two cables to the sub and two to the power amp; not using the rca outs of the preamp at all.
thanks for any info.
Follow Ups:
You could run the balanced output of the pre directly to the main power amp. Then use a transformer unit, such as a Jensen Isomax, to convert the unbalanced pre out to balanced, and run that directly to the sub. That way you don't put extra connections in your main L/R signal, where it would do the most harm. This is similar to my setup. How far is the cable run to the sub, and what does the sub manufacturer say about using a simple adapter to convert from unbalance to balanced? Does the sub input really use a differential circuit, to make use of a balanced signal, or not? Sometimes balanced cables are not necessary, even with longer than normal runs.
