The Toshiba SD-3960 is progressive scan and has wonderful sound on both DVDs and CDs. It can be had from Amazon for $69.00.
Follow Ups:
The Denon DVD-1720 is just over $100 ($125 at Tweeter) and worth every penney. I am impressed with the picture and sound quality for the price.
