I've been looking at Yamaha A1 on E-bay for few months, I've noticed that recently the listing for Yamaha A1s have diminished a lot. Is Yamaha coming out with a replacement? Has anyone purchased from "TakeAuction.com"? They've listed a lot of Yamaha A1s on E-bay, but no one seems to be bidding on them? WHat's the scoop?
EBay items usually go for more than you can buy them for at stores on the net. Use mysimon or other shopping bots to get some idea of the lower than EBay prices. One phenomenon that I have noticed on EBay is some retailer selling an item. They will list thier website. When you click on it you find the item for less than the current bid. Whoever is bidding on EBay does no homework on the costs that they could get on the web. When you really get serious then check every shopping site you can find. Use search engines to find other vendors. Mamma, Dogpile, Alltheweb, Google will usually give a vendor not associated with a portal whose prices will be lower. Sometimes the portal based shops will have a low price.
You can also try Audiogon.
My guess is that a lot of people are not aware of it. Sometimes on EBay there can be a very popular amp,pre-amp, or speakers but the item will recieve few bid even when the reserve is low. Other times even obsecure items recieve a lot of bids. Do not make a decision as to the merits of an item based upon how well it sell on ebay. I saw one person advertise on different sites for a certain item which I had seen sell several times on Ebay. I finally e-mailed him and told him that I had seen the item several times. His response, he had not thought of ebay though he was well aware of ebay.
