I was considering a 20" auto-volume unit to upgrade my Magnavox SmartSound but am leary.

I have no experience with these personally, but from the information I've read it seems to be a good $ compromise between totally flat and curved tube. Flatter than most, but not as expensive as the WEGA's.
The blacks aren't upto par but everything else beats the Toshiba IMHO.
I'm not trying to top you I have the model number (something like) XX31SF31. I got satalite last year and I thought I had a new TV. For this reason I also bought a Panosonic DVD and VCR. The only Sony I had about circa 1992 was a 32" XBR and the picture tube was just about burned out, when I traded it in to Ken Cranes after owning in for just under five years.
I buy LDs & DTS CDs there, but they sell hardware too?

I just got a Toshiba after weighing my options against a Wega. Obviously the Wega is flatter, but to me, the extra $500 to get the same sized television from Sony was not worth it. Plus I got component vidio inputs.
Hey Tweak, I thought you didn't believe in component video (grin).
I don't know the answer, but so far, our 34 hd wega we've had a year hasn't had a problem. (crossing fingers).
i am considering wega too but might decide against it if
these downsides become too bothering :-- silver border (i think black is the only one that looks good
just a personal preference)
-- cost.. you end up spending double of what you pay for toshibas
and other brands for same features.
-- weight.. will need 2-3 friends to lift wegas
I and my 75 year old dad lifted mine onto a stand. Neither one of us is a bodybuilder either. Mine weighs just under 200 lbs. (196).
