I had one for over a year, never had any problems, worked great. Excellent in 5.1 mode for movies. It was decent for 2 channel music. They are available for just over $1,000. new, give Uncle Stereo a call 800 978 6253.
I paid many times more for high end premaps, which sounded better in stereo, but none operated as logically, silently and flawlessly as the Sony. The parasound 2500 for roughtly $3,000 would be my next consideration at that price level.
Go to audioasylum.com and then to reviews, AV preamps, Sony tae9000 es. There is a string about 400 responses discussing this preamp.
