I recently connected a Sony DVD (model S560D) to the S-Video input on my 36" Philips Magnavox TP3681 television. The picture is crystal clear except for a faint horizontal one inch wide line that continuously cycles (slowly) from the top to the bottom of the television screen.
This doesn't occur on any of the other video inputs only the
S-Video. I've replaced the S-Video cable with a higher quality shielded cable, I've shutoff the DVD player and even disconnected it from the S-Video input adapter and each time, I still see this horizontal line. So it doesn't appear to be caused by the DVD or DVD player. I'm thinking it's some other outside interference. Any suggestions what might be causing this or how I might eliminate this problem?
Follow Ups:
Silly question, these wouldn't happen to be plugged into different electrical outlets would they? By this I mean two different duplex
outlets, I realize they can't physically share the same plug. This almost seems like it's a ground loop, and the line moving is the video equivalent of a 60 cycle hum.
Just something to fiddle around with.
Regards,
They are both plugged into the same surge suppressing power strip.
Is the cable TV input plugged directly into the TV or are you also taking it through the Monster Unit? The path should be:
Cable company feed --> Monster 3500 ---> TV
I thought I answered this earlier today, but apparently my brain isn't functioning properly.
Regards,
Thanks for your input..... it's great having someone else to throw some ideas. When you said try switching the plugs around, and when that didn't have any effect I started switching around the inputs to the t and viola...I found my problem.... in addition to the normal cable input, my tv accepts 2 RCA inputs and one s-video. I had been using 1 RCA input for my satellite dish and the other for my vcr. RCA video 2 was producing the interference. Once I disconnected it, viola, interference gone. Unfortunately, I won't be able to use that video input on my tv, but that's ok since I run everything (except the new DVD) through a Channel Plus home distribution system.
Thanks again for your ideas
