i recieved as a gift an un-opened creative labs pc-dvd 5x drive with a dxr3 decoder card.os is win98se/128mb pc100ram/sb16 audiocard/stb velocity128 agp videocard/ms-1569mobo/amd k6-2 300 cpu.
out of 8 dvd movies we were able to watch just 3 !
the other 5 movies would all start and within 5sec-90sec would just stop outputting video to the toshiba tv or the pc monitor but still ouputting audio to the tv.
the other 3 movies would play just fine no matter where you started/paused/ff/rw.
tried cleaning the 5 dvd's even though they looked clean anyway and it made no difference at all.
makes no difference whether pc-dvd goes through the vcr or direct to the tv.
was about to do a re-install but then tried one of the movies that was ok and everything was fine.
tried any of the other movies that didnt play and they still didnt play so i decided to not do the re-install.
i am stymied.
movies that play -->baby mozart child educational movie/seven samurai/puppetoon movie tribute to george pal
movies that dont play -->elizabeth/dr. strangelove/to kill a mockingbird/young frankenstein/raging bull
nothing on the computer has changed since the initial installation.
anyone have any ideas ?
ive already exhausted the troubleshooting faq's at creative and in the manual and on-screen.
thanks for any help.

I suggest you try one of the video/HT based forums
www.avsforum.com
or
www.hometheaterfourm.comBoth have sections called HTPC (Home Theater PC). Those guys get MUCH more involved in the stuff than you are right now, but could help you troubleshoot your problem ASAP. Be prepared to answer specific/detailed questions, but I bet they can give you solid answers.

Many reasons, but one of the most fundemental can be data rates. computer DVD can very often have problems with discs that are encoded at higher rates. Very often during authoring we deliberately limit the rate, particulary if the disc is intended for computer use.Roland
