  No doubt the Sony DVP-9000ES. Awesome machine that plays DVD, SACD, and CD equally well. Can be had through OneCall or Oade for about 1100 bucks.

  I have had many DVD players... Sony, JVC, Phillips, And Panasonic... and this unit is by far the best that i have seen and own (in this price-range!)

  I have also heard very good things about toshiba, but not about the CD play-back
