I saw a movie on ps2 and it looked a little dark not as bad as apex but not as good as panasonic or toshiba? Now my thoughts would be to get a ps2 and then use that until I can afford another GOOD dvd player(non progressive scan). But if X-BOX plays dvds really well then maybe I should say screw ps2 and go for X-box and save myself the extra dvd player? Any thoughts???
Follow Ups:
i have both .i used to think i had problems with discs i rented being scratched..but it was just the ps2. i realize the x box is certainly not a great dvd player..but it far surpasses the ps2. i have had NO problems with the x box{cept fot that the first one i got on day one was broken}the picture looks great on my 36wega
My brother got an X Box, and from the twenty minutes or so I saw of "Fear and Loathing..." it makes a much nicer player than the PS2. You will have to buy a $30 "DVD kit" and a $30 advanced or HD A/V box for the optical digital output, so the $299 price is a little misleading. My brother has found that it won't play some discs, (he has 5 and it won't play 2; horrible odds that I assume qualify for special circumstance).I have no test equipment but I've always thought the PS2 was an awful DVD player, the X Box may measure just as poorly but looks quite a bit better.
Overall, it's on par with my 5 year old DVP-S3000 but not as nice as my 2 year old Yamaha.
Hope I was of some help. -T
